Bubbles & Lord Gaga's 1st Wedding Anniversary Party - 17th October 2009

In the blink of an eye, Lord Gaga and I have been married one full year. We celebrated with family and friends by having our first wedding anniversary in Bijou, Mont Kiara.

Our wedding anniversary falls on 18th October but the party was on 17th October. Since it was also Deepavali, we had the theme of 'Scents of a Fragrant Garden". Guests came in Indian costumes and it was a very colourful party indeed.

And of course who better to plan a party like this but Bubbles and Fruitcake ourselves. We spent weeks planning this and one very hectic morning in Brickfields buying the decor items.

We had a henna artist to draw patterns on guests' hands.

The Julian & Reysiel's Wedding - 26 Sept 2009

Thanks to Mr & Mrs Chua (Julian aka Silver Surfer & Reysiel aka Dancing Queen), we had our first professional gig as wedding planners/coordinators in September 2009. It started with a phone call and a one-month time line which was soon followed by many emails, Excel spreadsheets, phone calls and a few meetings. The bride and groom worked tirelessly to provide us with the necessary details to ensure a smooth flow of events on their wedding day.

The day was packed to the brim with little breathing room for snafus. Luckily, Murphy didn't make much of an appearance that day and everything ran like a well oiled machine. The schedule ran like most weddings with the morning Make Up session, 'Chip San Leong' (picking up of the bride), Church Ceremony, Chinese Tea Ceremony, Cocktails, Dinner & Dancing.

The 'Chip San Leong' was a well planned 'Groom & his entourage' torture session where many a "No YouTube!" cry and loads of laughter was heard. Ria, the Maid of Honour, and the 10 other ladies did a great job incorporating Filipino elements into this Chinese tradition. Kudos to the guys who were really sporting!

At the church, Bubbles & Fruitcake help prep the church, briefed and rehearsed with the page boy, flower girl & bridesmaids. Thanks to Teo for sweeping up the rose petals :)

Back we all trouped to the hotel to rest, grab some sustenance and prepare for the Chinese Tea Ceremony. Thanks to our experiences we set up a little production line for the Tea Ceremony and assigned a member from the Bride and the Groom's contingent of relatives to announce each participant. Ria gave the Bride's side a brief explanation of what the Chinese Tea ceremony was about and what was expected of them.

Next came cocktails, guest registration and dinner. It was great working with the bridal entourage and the staff at Sunway Lagoon Resort. The guests were accommodating enough to sing a Hokkien drinking song during the 3 toasts thanks to Lionel the Emcee (aka Coconut Soldier). The Groom's 'Buaya' friends managed many rounds of that little ditty that's still stuck in my head (English & Hokkien versions sung to the tune of Jingle Bells). After a few drinks the 'Buaya's did the Congo. The Bride & Groom showed off their talents in dancing and singing. The single people were mildly tortured with the bouquet and garter games. Dinner was also musically accompanied by Colin & Ice as well as Dave's compilations and picture montages.

Some guests left early ...

Some had a smoke break when the Bride went to change ...

And the rest stayed on for dancing ...

Bubbles and Fruitcake were able to execute and work with the plan thanks to the fantastic Bride & Groom, and their entourage - It was super FUN guys!!!

Event Planning Services

Bubbles and Fruitcake have been organizing parties for friends and for themselves for 10 years. After endless party ideas, 100 litres of alcohol and too many incriminating photos, we decided to do this for real. We have planned birthday parties, hen nights, themed parties and weddings.

Our services include:

  • Emcees,
  • Bands,
  • Caterers,

Bubble's Secret Garden of the Fairies Wedding

Bubbles got married in October last year. She was spending so much time planning her wedding, she quit her job to do it full time.

The theme was 'The Secret Garden of the Fairies'.

For a theme like that, she needed a place that was surrounded by nature, had a lot of greenery and space, yet have all the facilities required to pull of a wedding. After a recce of more than a dozen venues and talks with even more F&B Managers, she settled on Passion Road. It was originally located in Damansara Heights but then relocated to a bigger bungalow on Lorong Yap Kwan Seng.

Bubbles's wedding invitation was via a website (why kill trees, waste paper?) where all the details of the wedding such as date, time, venue, location map and theme can be found. Guests also RSVPed via the site.

Guests were asked to come as fairies or with flowers. Yes, even the men.

Bubbles and Fruitcake pulled it off and here are some photos from the wedding.

Who are Bubbles & Fruitcake?

We are 2 girls who met at uni, hated the sight of each other but got thrown together due to an intense need for clubbing (hey, we were young and in London!) but we were stuck in 2 separate groups of geeks.

Through dancing and many many champagnes and alcopops, we realized "Hey, she's not so bad after all".

10 years and many adventures later, here we are as best of friends who found among other things, an interest in event planning.

Bubbles is bubbly (duh), fun, energetic, joyous, adventurous and bounces off walls. She just took up diving but is terrified of the water. She also loves bubble wrap.

Fruitcake is analytical, psychotic, skeptical, a walking oxymoron and funny in a very serious kind of way. She is trying to qualify as an accountant but hates numbers related to accounting.
